Mutitjulu, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park

Asset Activation Grant Assitance Project Management

Currently under construction at the base of Uluru, the Mutitjulu Street Workout and Boxing Ring project is our first Aboriginal community initiative. Designed to support grassroots program providers like the Arrernte Boxing Academy, it will help revive long-dormant sport and recreation programs and re-engage local at-risk youth through culturally relevant, strength-based physical activity.

Currently under construction at the base of Uluru, the Mutitjulu Street Workout and Boxing Ring project is the first of its kind to be delivered in a remote Aboriginal community. Funded through the Aboriginal Investment NT Community Impact Grant, the 204m² facility (17x12m) will provide a culturally safe, accessible space to help re-establish sport and recreation in the community. Long awaited by locals, the site includes specialised bodyweight training equipment such as a vertical pole, dip bar station, ring bars, multibar, extra-long battle bars, calisthenics ring forks, a triple bar set, and both vertical and horizontal ladders. A custom boxing bag rig will support up to three heavyweight bags, complemented by a unique attachment system for boxing ring ropes, allowing providers like the Arrernte Boxing Academy to run on-site clinics. The project aims to re-engage local youth—many at risk of entering the justice system—by tackling sedentary lifestyles and improving mental health through strength-based, grassroots physical activity programs.
